What to do in Lamoine State Park

The park is located in the Down East Region near Acadia. Folks looking for a quiet location and semi-wild camping experience will want to choose Lamoine State Park. It's central location makes it a good choice for those wishing to visit Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor area. A variety of birds and animals live in the park including deer, fox, chipmunks and raccoon. Seabirds such as gulls, terns and osprey are frequently seen in addition to occasional sightings of sea animals.

Lamoine State Park offers a campground and day use facility nestled in the heart of Down East Region. The oceanfront park is located in Maine's most sought after vacation region and is easily accessible from both coastal Rt. 1 and Rt. 1A (from Bangor and US 95). The park greets you with an impressive, beautiful cut granite and rod iron fencing. At Lamoine, visitors enjoy camping, boating, fishing and simple relaxation in a beautiful site which is a quiet alternative to the crowds of Mount Desert Island. The park's central location makes it a good choice for vacationers who wish to be close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor and still enjoy a semi-wild camping experience while viewing spectacular scenery.

Lamoine State Park is an enjoyable park for the entire family. An expansive day use area offers picnic tables, hibachi style grills and gorgeous ocean views and views of Acadia's mountains. A well maintained large boat launch is provided along with a float system for salt water fishing. The children's playground includes a sandbox and infant swings. Old children and adults will enjoy the volleyball net and horseshoe pits. Volleyball and horseshoes are available at the contact booth. People of all ages will enjoy exploring the shoreline that is covered with millions of tiny shells. The campground has 61 sites accommodating both tents and RVs. Park entrance fees are $1 per person off-season and $2 per person in-season.

Hungry travelers heading south on SR 3, south of Ellsworth, will not want to miss Betsy's Kitchen. This small rustic restaurant features fabulous melt-in-your-mouth homemade breads, homemade jellies, blueberry pancakes, friendly hospitality, camper necessities, postcards and more. The restaurant is located on the left, a short distance from the Ellsworth Wal*Mart, which incidentally, sells fishing licenses.

The park is located on SR 184, eight miles southeast from Ellsworth. Located on Frenchman's Bay, the park is near Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island. Signage is excellent.

Visitors to the Down East / Acadia Region may expect to find daytime winter temperatures averaging above 18 degrees Fahrenheit (above -8 Celsius). Summer brings southwesterly winds and temperatures averaging above 68 degrees Fahrenheit (above 20 Celsius). The region receives an average of more than 44 inches (112 centimeters) of precipitation each year.
