The park has tent and trailer campsites, a cabin and cottage, two beaches, picnic grounds and a boat launch. In addition, the park has multi-use trails open year-round. Winter sports are enjoyed weather permitting.

Recreation
Lake Taghkanic State Park offers cabins, campsites, picnic area, fishing lake, hunting grounds, boat launch facilities, showers, playground, hiking trails, bike paths, boat rental, swimming beaches, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and ice fishing. The park is open year-round. Camping season opens in early May and runs through October. Bow hunting for deer and turkey is permitted in season.

Located 15-20 miles east of the Hudson River, Lake Taghkanic State Park may be accessed from SR 82 and the Taconic State Parkway.

The Lake Taghkanic area has a varied climate with average January temperatures ranging from above 22 degrees down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.
