What to do in Lake Ouachita State Park

Lake Ouachita State Park is known for the Lake Ouachita's crystal clear waters. The lake has 975 miles of rugged shoreline which encompass 48,000 acres of clean, inviting, sporting waters.

Recognized as one of Arkansas' superior fishing lakes where bass, crappie, bream and catfish abound, Lake Ouachita is also stocked with rainbow trout, northern pike and ocean stripers. At the lake's eastern tip, the state park includes historic Three Sisters' Springs, once thought to have curative powers for different ailments.
The park offers 118 campsite, and walk-in tent sites, picnic areas, a marina (with boat, motor and slip rentals; bait and supplies), swimming area and trails. A store and snack bar are located in the visitor center. Seven fully equipped cabins with kitchens overlook the lake.

Recreation
Swimming, skiing, scuba diving, boating and fishing for bream, crappie, catfish, stripers and trout can be enjoyed in open waters and quiet coves at Lake Ouachita State Park. A park interpreter offers guided hikes, scenic lake tours on a tour barge, nature talks and demonstrations, plus evening slide shows and movie presentations at the park's outdoor amphitheater or Visitor Center.

Location
Lake Ouachita State Park is located on 48,000 acre Lake Ouachita in the Ouachita Mountains Region of central Arkansas. From Hot Springs, travel three miles west on U.S. 270, then go 12 miles north on Arkansas Hwy. 227 to the park.

Climate
Arkansas has a temperate climate with the coldest temperatures near freezing during December, January and February. Daytime highs for these months usually reach 55 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures are very mild with lows dipping to 44 degrees F and highs reaching 70 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months of the year with average temperatures reaching 90 degrees F. June and September average temperatures usually reach into the mid-eighties. Spring and winter months are the wettest of the year.
