What to do in Lake Lowndes State Park

Lake Lowndes State Park offers complete recreational facilities for individuals, families, and groups. Located on a beautiful 150-acre lake, the park offers unlimited opportunities for fishing and camping, as well as complete facilities for football, tennis, softball, and other organized sports. Mississippi University for Women (The "W") and Mississippi State University (MSU) are just a short drive to the west, making Lake Lowndes State Park the perfect place to stay during a football weekend at MSU or while visiting either campus.

Lake Lowndes is a superb recreational complex. The park has many facilities to accommodate groups. The complex offers a wide variety of sports activities inside and outside. This park has something to offer active individuals as well as individuals who just like to enjoy nature. Visitors may enjoy the cabins and campsites for their overnight accommodations.

Visitors will find an indoor center with a game room, meeting rooms, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. Outdoors there are 3 softball fields with lights and 6 tennis courts. Tent camping, 4 cabins, 50 camping pads and a self-guided nature trail are also available.

Boating, fishing and swimming activities are also available.

Lake Lowndes State Park is located six miles southeast of Columbus off Mississippi Hwy. 69.

Mississippi generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Freezing temperatures are possible in the winter. Thunderstorms and are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.
