What to do in Hudson River Islands State Park

Located on Gay's Point and Stockport Middle Ground Islands in Hudson River, this State Park is accessed one mile south of Coxsackie Boat Launch Site and four miles north of Athens Boat Launch Site. The park is available between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. Hiking, hunting, picnicking and fishing are enjoyed.

Hudson River Islands State Park facilities are concentrated on the islands of Gay's Point and Stockport Middle Ground. These islands are fragile communities with many rare and endangered plant and animal species. Day use facilities include picnic areas with grills and nature trails. Fishing is popular and transient camping is allowed.

Recreation
Visitors to Hudson River Islands State Park are given the opportunity to enjoy hiking trails, hunting grounds, picnic pavilions an tables and the opportunity to powerboat and fish on the Hudson River. Access is by boat only. A landing site is available.

This lovely park is accessible only by boat. It is located on the Hudson River 1 mile south of the Coxsackie Boat Launch Site and 4 miles north of the Athens Boat Launch Site, both accessible from SR 385.

Climate
The Hudson River Islands State Park area has a varied climate with average January temperatures ranging from 14 to 22 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 to -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. A slender parcel along the eastern state line receive the heaviest precipitation.
