To her legion of fans, she is known simply as "The Pen," and to them she is Hong Kong. Opened in 1928, this five-star institution was the epitome of British colonial opulence, a fan-kissed oasis where the gentry enjoyed afternoon tea. The Peninsula has moved with the times, and on top of her hallowed colonial heart, a modern tower now rises and makes the most of sweeping views over Hong Kong Island's famous skyline. Rooms mix the modern with the classic, too, with plasma-screen TVs woven around marble bathrooms and calm-colored linens. The indoor swimming pool is a family joy away from the piercing sun, with massive windows that make the best of the views—and you can eat there, too. There are six restaurants and two bars at the hotel. Babysitting services are available 24 hours a day for couples looking to enjoy fine dining.
