Head to Breakneck Ridge for some great hiking. The mountain is on the river between Cold Spring and Beacon, and its highest summit tops out at 1,260 feet. A popular trail begins on Route 9D near the tunnel and ascends the mountain's west face. It's a steep hike to the first hill, which provides great river views.

This homey, three-story B&B was built in 1825 and maintains a historical ambiance with its four-poster beds, quilts, and antiques. The inn is quiet, although it sits right on Cold Spring's Main Street, which bustles with antiques shops, boutiques, galleries, and fine restaurants. The nine guest rooms are uniquely decorated and range in ambiance from moody and somber to sunny and light, but all of them are lovely. Most rooms are equipped with fireplaces or wood burning stoves, and all have private baths and air conditioning. Breakfast can be served in bed, in the main dining area, in the Victorian conservatory, or in the terraced garden during the summer.
