• Reserve a guided turtle walk, available July through September.

The 36 room Mawamba Lodge, located on a 15-acre sand bar between the Tortuguero canal and the Caribbean coast, offers comfortable rooms with ceiling fans and private baths. There are gardens, nature trails, and a swimming pool. Look for the red-eyed tree frogs that hang out near the pool. The lodge offers guided tours of the canals by boat or kayak, fishing trips for tarpon and snook (January to May and July to September) as well as night turtle walks to watch the nesting green sea turtles (mid-July through September.
