Expert Review of The Setai
Best Resorts & Lodges Review of The Setai
- The exhibition kitchen stands out in the dramatic dining room of The Restaurant, the resort's Asian-fusion eatery. Modern and angular, the décor is warmed by the aroma of authentic noodles, rice, curry, and dim sum, served family-style on traditional dishes. The expansive menu is a boon for the adventurous foodie. For something light and spicy, step into The Bar & Courtyard, where spring rolls, fantastic all-natural cocktails, and live music await.
- The plush Spa at The Setai has individual suites, each with ocean views, a private bath, and steam room. The treatments are inspired by various regions of AsiaBalinese massage, Ayurvedic Body Polish, Himalayan Hot Stone Massage, and a Thai massage and steam bath. Combat aging and give your skin a rejuvenating boost with the Omega 3 Body Polish with flaxseed oil, coconut powder, and Loquat Body Milk.
Saucy and stylish, The Setai is a South Beach stunner.
The hotel actually comprises two separate spaces that marry old and new. One is the original and historic hotel, formerly the Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel, which was built in the1930s at the height of the International Art Deco movement. The other is a modern glass tower. Either way, the grounds surrounding them include tropical gardens, refreshing pools, and a splashy entrée onto fantastic Miami Beach.
From design to ambiance, The Setai has a strong Asian influence. For example, the grey antique bricks in the lobby were salvaged from an Art Deco building slated to be destroyed in Shanghai, China. The rooms in the Art Deco building are sleek, smart, and uncluttered, yet natural woods, fibers, and materials keep them from ever feeling cold or standoffish. Accommodations in the tower are also well-designed, but feel more like roomy urban lofts.
An oceanfront oasis of calm and serenity in the midst of
