When is a hotel not just a hotel? When it's also a UNESCO World Heritage site comprised of 65 Dutch Colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Gay Dutch owner Jakob Gelt Dekker restored this eight-block area on the Otrobanda side of Curacao's capital city, incorporating an 80-room boutique hotel into a village complex that also contains five restaurants/bars, a spa, a small casino (however Vegas it's not!), two pools (one grotto-style with a waterfall), and the fascinating anthropological Museum Kura Hulanda. Commitment ceremonies are welcome at this very gay-friendly property, and no two suites are exactly alike, giving the hotel bucketloads of character. A complimentary shuttle transports guests to the beach, and hitting the island's only gay bar (Lyrics) just requires a walk over the Queen Emma floating bridge. Plus, the city's colorful waterfront is right outside of Kura Hulanda's doors.
