Site of the first Academy Awards in 1929, this Hollywood landmark (right across the street from Mann's Chinese Theater) is one of the most famous hotels in L.A. Once a derelict eye-sore, the Roosevelt has gone through a radical transformation in the last few years and is now one of Hollywood's A-list hot spots (try to avoid eye contact with Paris Hilton by the pool!). Queer icon Marilyn Monroe shot her first commercial on the diving board, and closet case Montgomery Clift spent three months in a room on the ninth floor of the hotel while shooting From Here to Eternity (both are said to have ghosts still hanging out here). Gay pianist Michael Feinstein has a clubroom named here in his honor: Feinstein's at the Cinegrill, hosting famous Broadway singers.
