Staying at charming, ten-room Lions Inn, which is run by gay couple Floyd McLamb and Stuart Anthony, feels more like bunking with local friends than staying at a B&B. Its two rambling historic residences in the gay-popular Faubourg-Marigny residential neighborhood draw a mixed clientele, and the camaraderie among guests often extends the afternoon wine hour well into the night. It's an easy walk into the French Quarter, but removed from the tourist zone's boisterous street life. A beautiful pool and hot tub set in the tropical back garden provide respite from the Crescent City's legendary humidity. Complimentary WiFi, bicycles for exploring, and expanded continental breakfast are added bonuses.
