Creole Louisiana oozes from every square foot of the gay-owned and exquisitely renovated Royal Street Courtyard, an 1850s Greek revival-style guesthouse in the oh-so-gay Faubourg-Marigny neighborhood with 14-foot ceilings and handcrafted cypress moldings. All nine rooms have private baths, some with claw-foot tubs. The clientele is mixed, but the no-kids-under-16 rule and 24-hour, clothing-optional hot tub promotes a mature mindset. Fortunately for pet lovers, children of the four-legged variety are perfectly welcome. The French Quarter's gay nightlife is a mile away, but making the journey on foot (yes, it's safe) is a great way to take in the local architecture. Ask amiable co-owner Phillip Lege for local tips.
