Highgear's Enduro line of trail-running wrist ware, which debuted in the summer of 2006, offers durable, affordable watches that cover all the essentials. To take advantage of Highgear's many features, target the Enduro Compass, which includes a digital compass with adjustable declination; a 100-hour, 100-lap chronograph with a 1/100th of a second resolution; and a watch with three alarms and three independent timers. That may sound like a mouth-full, but it's actually just useful basics without a bunch of other bells and whistles that you'll never use. The chrono measures your training progress in up to 25 workout sessions and, of course, records your time on race day. It also features a training log that stores best lap, average lap, and total segment data. The watch's timer counts down (basic), repeats counts (semi-basic), and counts up (muy bueno), meaning that the timer will first count down from an interval (a five-minute warm-up for example), sound an alarm, and then count back up (to time your run). The 35-page manual explains how to use all these nifty features. The Enduro Compass also comes in a "clip-on" version called the Enduro TrailHead that uses a carabiner rather than a strap—great for those multi-sporters who wear a daypack while working out.
