Galapagos Beach Travel Guide

Seals on the beach at Darwin Bay, Galapagos Islands (Nathan Borchelt)
Galapagos Beach Travel Tips
- Arrange tours ahead of time. Land lubbers should book accommodations in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island and day-trip to the surrounding islands. Those who prefer nights at sea can book a cruise boat for land and watersports tours.
- From Puerto Ayora, hike 30 minutes through national park land to Tortuga Bay, open to visitors from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Explore white-sand beaches, lava rocks, and mangroves, or take a swim in the protected waters off Playa Mansa.
- Tour Tagus Cove via boat or kayak for a chance to see the unique Galapagos penguin, the only species of its kind to live north of the equator. Accessible from Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island, the lava-rock cliffs are covered in graffiti—albeit century-old graffiti put there by whalers and pirates.
