If you can tear yourself away from the area’s award-winning beaches, strung like a glittery necklace around the tri-city confederacy of St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa, you could be in for a pleasant surprise. St. Petersburg is much more than leathery snowbirds and oiled-up spring breakers. The city hosts six museums in the downtown area, including the Smithsonian-affiliated Florida International Museum, Salvador Dali Museum, and Museum of Fine Arts.
