What to do in Destin
The most common question at a Destin, Florida, seafood restaurant? “Who caught the fish?” Chances are, it’s someone at your table—maybe even you. Chefs in this Gulf Coast enclave will cook your locally caught red snapper and top it with a savory mix of cheese and crab meat. While families have discovered Destin’s sugar-sand beaches in recent years, the town has been known as “the luckiest little fishing village” for decades, thanks to the proximity of the continental shelf that allows fishermen to hit deep water not far from shore. Destin hardly qualifies as a village today, with expansive condos and resorts ruling the better part of town. But it’s still a fishing village at heart, with more boat charters than anywhere else in Florida, making it one of the friendliest places to cast a line regardless of your age or experience.
