What to do in Naples

In the upscale, beachfront city of Naples, Rodeo Drive-type dining and shopping cater to an affluent set. But you have only to look to the water to find a completely different side of Naples. Take a paddle through Johnson Bay. In this tropical ecosystem, 90 percent of which exists only in southern Florida, kayakers can get face-to-face with the behemoth and shy manatees cruising under the water. Mangrove branches shelter snails, crabs, brown pelicans, and Peregrine falcons. And in nearby Everglades National Park, bald eagles, crocodiles, and alligators await (at a safe distance). Catch your dinner in the Gulf of Mexico; trophy grouper, cobia, and sea trout lure anglers of all experience levels. Later, grab a sandy seat on public Lowdermilk Beach to watch the sunset, or join the crowds at the Fishing Pier for people- and pelican-watching.

Traveler Reviews of Naples

MrsJBolt rates Naples
Naples is one of the prettiest places I have been in the world. It has the white sand beaches, the slow lapping crystal blue water, and lots of days of sun. The majority of eateries are delicious (pricey, but delicious). The houses and cars are dream worthy as are most of the outfits people wear to dinner & cocktails. The sunset cruises that go through Port Royal showcases even more magnificent houses of many famous persons. Take a day off and drive south to the Everglades to experience crocodiles, airboat adventures, and good "local" seafood restaurants. Clearwater Beach & Tampa are not far north as well if you want to do a progressive beach vacation. And even Miami is a few hours east along Alligator Alley/Everglades Parkway. All great areas to visit late September to early May.
