Celtic and Eclectic

Celtic

Colours International Festival
Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
October 5-14
902-562-6700 or 1-800-565-0000

This celebration of living Gaelic culture includes events ranging from small ceilidhs (music and dance sessions) to big outdoor performances. From the moment the first bow hits the fiddle strings, there's enough music and camaraderie to keep feet tapping at concerts, dances, and workshops…all set against the most spectacular backdrop this side of the Atlantic—autumn in Cape Breton.

The Gaelic culture of Cape Breton has its strongest roots in rural communities, many of which retain strong ties with the language and traditions of Scotland. Many of the performances and events of the festival happen in villages where these roots are strongest. In addition to the festival, the island offers beautiful scenery for hiking fishing, sailing, golfing and swimming.

A laid-back, "dance-till-dawn" mentality prevails among the thousands who pay about $45 at the gate (less in advance) for the weekend of music.
