A quieter alternative to Jackson Hole and home to nearly 500 inches of annual snow, Grand Targhee is known for great skiing well into the spring. To experience a taste of local culture, plan to visit on closing day, April 12, for the eighth annual Cardboard Box Derby. Cardboard "artists" of all ages utilize cardboard, paper, tape, glue, and string to fashion creative sled-like, mountain-worthy "vehicles." Don't think cardboard can hack it on the slopes? Tell that to the people flying down the mountain past you in their sled.

The public is welcome to enter the contest and create a vehicle that accommodates up to six riders. Group entries are encouraged, and the most creative wins. The day concludes with an après ski party at The Trap Bar. Derby contestants receive a beer coupon that is certainly well-deserved by then.
