Pond skimming is growing in popularity as a spring competition at several ski areas. Big Sky has their own version on April 12, the Spring Run-Off, featuring a 100-foot-wide pond that skiers and snowboarders attempt to glide across, or predictably crash into freezing water. When the sun sets, the final-weekend festivities continue with a DJ and live band.
Huntley Lodge at Big Sky offers an enticing spring special, with packages for $199 per person (double occupancy) that include two nights at the slope-side property, lift tickets for two days, and breakfast each morning.

Moonlight Basin is Big Sky's new neighbor, and these interconnected resorts now boast the largest ski playground in the United States. Though it's not yet a well-known resort (just wait!), Moonlight does have a few low-key events planned for spring. Check its website for more details.
