Do It Yourself: A Safari Destination Guide What You Should Know Before You Go By Paul McMenamin
BOTSWANA Chobe National Park Chobe remains an untouched wilderness where game runs free and the park is not yet overrun with safari tourism. A particularly scenic area, Chobe features very large herds of elephant and sable antelope, plus strong populations of giraffe. Some lion and cheetah follow the antelope herds, and you can expect to see white rhinos, although their numbers are small. Okavango Delta The Okavango Delta, a 7,000-square-mile inland floodplain, hosts one of the richest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. On the plains, there are large herds of buffalo, kudu, oryx, and sable antelope. In the waters of the deltawhich can be visited only by mekoros (dugout canoes)you'll find crocodiles and countless hippos. Elephants, lions, and leopards are common, but in lesser numbers than in the large game parks of Tanzania.
