Spain's capitol city of Madrid is one of the best gateway cities to reaching the paradors of southern Spain. Most major U.S. carriers, as well as Spain's national airline, Iberia Airlines, fly direct from various U.S. cities. Expect prices around $1,000 round-trip during the peak spring-summer season, $750 in the fall-winter.

Reservations, especially in the more-trafficked regions of Spain like Sevilla and Cordoba, should be made several months in advance.
