Getting there:
American Airlines, Air Jamaica, and U.S. Airways are three of the many international carriers that fly into Montego Bay Airport. Taxi service from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios, a 90-minute drive, costs $120.

Lodging:
The Spanish-owned Riu Ocho Rios is one of four resorts the hotelier owns in Jamaica.

Activities:
Dunn's River Falls is only a 15-minute taxi drive from the Riu. Allot yourself at least two hours for the climb. Cost of admission is $15 per adult, $12 per child. Tips for the guides are extra.

The River Tubing Safari and Horseback Ride n' Swim are two of the many adventures offered by the reputable Jamaican outfitter, Chukka Caribbean Adventures. Cost for the tubing is $66 for adults, $48 for children. Horseback riding costs $76 per person.

The Bob Marley Mausoleum in Nine Mile is about a 90-minute drive from Ocho Rios. Cost of admission is $15 for adults, $12 for children. We hired Rupert Tulloch for the day to take all 13 of us to Dunn's River Falls and onward to Nine Mile. Cost was $250 for transportation. Dunn's River Falls and the Bob Marley Mausoleum cost extra. You can usually track down Rupert on the beach next door to the Riu (or call 876.331.0886).

Our family also enjoyed the labors of the local masseuse, Winsome (876.845.9326). Winsome charged $40 per hour for massage, less than half the price of the upscale spa at the Riu. Her massage hut is located on the beach next to the Riu.
