Biography
Gary Chandler has lived, traveled, and worked in Latin America and the Caribbean for the last decade, co-authoring more than a dozen guidebooks to the region for Fodor's, Lonely Planet, and Moon Handbooks. Gary was born in Detroit, raised in a California ski town, and earned his bachelor's in Ethnic Studies from U.C. Berkley and a master's in journalism at Columbia University in New York City. His assignments have taken him from the rainforest of Honduras' Mosquito Coast to the urban jungle of Santo Domingo, from climbing the craggy volcanoes of El Salvador to diving the azure waters and eerie caverns of the Yucatán Peninsula. Gary also has worked as a newspaper and radio reporter, and is married to fellow travel writer (and The Away Network destination expert) Liza Prado. They live in Oakland, CA.
