Kerrick James took his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University in 1982. He has photographed the lands and cities of the American West, Mexico, and the Pacific Rim for over 25 years, shooting both adventure and destination travel features. His work has appeared on more than 200 book and magazine covers and in major features for Arizona Highways, Alaska, National Geographic Adventure, Voyageur, Condé Nast Traveler, Outdoor Photographer,Sky, Sunset, and Virtuoso Life.
In addition to providing covers for two books by National Geographic, he has also shot guidebooks to the Southwest, Arizona, New Mexico, Las Vegas, and San Francisco for Compass American Guides. For Insight Guides, he has shot travel guides to Arizona, California, and San Francisco. For Voyageur Press, he has shot five recent books on Arizona, Route 66, and ghost towns of the Southwest.
Kerrick is teaching eight photo workshops in 2011; two for DetoursAZ throughout Arizona and New Mexico, two for Friends of Arizona Highways in Death Valley and Hawaii, and four for Trafalgar in Costa Rica, the Canadian Rockies, the Mayan sites of the Yucatan, and the American Southwest. He is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), Travel Journalist's Guild (TJG), and Through Each Other's Eyes (TEOE). He lives in Mesa, Arizona, with his sons Shane, Royce, and Keanu.
