What to do in Disneyland

It was the newly crowned king of Bhutan who coined the term “Gross National Happiness” in 1972 to measure his country’s economic well-being, but even that ancient Himalayan kingdom must fall in line behind the 20th century’s archetypal land of smiles: Anaheim’s Disneyland, opened in 1955 and dubbed the “happiest place on Earth.” Today, overwrought parents may disagree, given the crowds, heat, and ticket prices. But ask the kids what they think of a place that enthralls with attractions like the Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Space Mountain, and they’ll give you today’s equivalent of GNH: Like!
