  As a general rule of thumb, beaches near ports are often congested or not very nice simply because of the shipping traffic. To avoid those conditions, you may want to go away from the port toward Boca del Rio. Also, cabs most often will just drop you off when you arrive at your destination, so have pickup arrangements made ahead of time.
