If you go downtown you can catch the River Walk and Alamo for only the cost of parking (usually between $8-12 for the whole day). The River Walk has an old theatre (Aztec Theatre) with a 10 minute show in the lobby for FREE!! There is a mall on the River Walk that is very unique to cool off for a while. Mission Trial is something neat, if you like history and being outside. There are 3 major missions that are FREE to walk through-San Jose Mission is the best b/c it's been beautifully restored. Also, if you're military, you can get your whole family into Sea World for an entire day for FREE-through the "Here's to the Heroes" program. Another thing you can do to save money is buy an entertainment book-they are $10 each. The coupons in there get discounts to six flags, sea world, movie theaters and restaurants. And most discounts are buy-one-get-one, so you can buy a few books and end up only paying for half the family to do whatever fun activities you desire!

Cowboy's Rodeo for live and piped in music in an enormous setting with multiple floors. Many bars on both levels, pool tables, mechanical bull riding, and live bull riding on some nights. National recording artists, herds of people. Friendly , very energetic atmosphere

I was in San Antonio for one night a few years ago and can't say I was that impressed. The RiverWalk was nice and all, but it all felt a bit staged. And I agree that many of the attractions are geared to families. Not sure where you're based, but Austin might be a bit more lively for a two-, three-night stay.
