I'd recommend Wickford Village for a normally less-crowded option. Here is a link to their site: http://www.wickfordvillage.org/Home/Village-Photos.aspx

you can take a high speed ferry from new london to block island r.i. for a day trip, there is mystic for the seaport and aquarium, and when we go to mohegans, we stay at the new hyatt place or the new best western. actually we like the BW better. you can even stay in mystic and drive to the casinos about 1/2 hour away. have fun

Best way would be to take 95 through CT and into RI. Get off at exit 3 and follow 138 to rt 1. It's a nice ride, from NY depending on the time of day, should take between 3 and 4 hours. There are buses from Newport to Warren. Car ride is about 25 to 30 minutes.

You can catch the Block Island Ferry from Newport for around $20. If you need a day of relaxation and aesthetic beauty, Block Island might very well be worth the ferry fare. There are 350 spring-fed freshwater ponds and 17 miles of beaches. If the fall air brings you in from the shore, an array of restaurants, boutiques and lighthouses are located on the island. I hope this helps you plan your travels. Have a great trip!
