  Longest hike in the "Porkies" is 17 miles (Porcupine Mts-Lake Superior Trail), so probably a two- to three-day trip. There are a number of backcountry campsites along this hike (cf.http://www.michigandnr.com/Publications/PDFS/RecreationCamping/Porkies_bcmap.pdf).You don't need to pay for individual sites but you will need a dispersed camping permit; more info at: http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?type=SPRK&id=426.
