New York City Travel Tips
- Pay what you can afford at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (suggested donation is $20). Don't miss the European tapestries and architecture in The Cloisters.
- Take the kids out to a ball game at one of the city's two new baseball stadiums—Yankee Stadium in the Bronx or the Mets' Citi Field in Queens.
- Eat lunch outdoors at Strawberry Fields in Central Park. It was designed by Bruce Kelly as a memorial to John Lennon, who was shot outside of the Dakota apartment building just blocks away.
- Pull up a free beach chair provided by local businesses and sit in Times Square. The city closed five blocks of Broadway to car traffic in summer 2009, giving more elbow room to the some 350,000 people who parade through the area every day.
- Buy tickets online ahead of time for the Empire State Building. It'll save you the hassle of standing in two lines before taking the elevator up to the best views of the city. You can now also prebook tickets for the recently reopened Statue of Liberty crown, though demand will outstrip supply on most days as it's only open to 240 visitors each day.

Lacy answered:If you're driving, it takes about an hour. Of course, you're in or near New York City so traffic can be a major factor. There are several buses and vans that will take you between the two--just go to the public transportation section of the airport and there will be desks there for you. The average price of these is around $25. You will usually have to wait until there is a van-load of people before they'll take off which can be frustrating but if you're there at a decent time there is usually plenty of people looking to make that trip as well. Or you can always take a cab. This is the most expensive option, but also the fastest.

The Amtrak train runs from Bangor, Maine (72 miles south of Millinocket) to New York City. You would have to get a ride to Bangor. You could also rent a car in Bangor, and drive. FYI, you have to be 21 in most states to rent a car. So, it looks like if you can get to Bangor you've got it made. I worked at a summer camp before I was a teacher and I loved the Camp America people!! Hope you have a great summer. ' -

Where's the best city to experience July 4th in the U.S.?Answer this6 Answersppmickey answered:If I were coming from the UK and wanting to experience the 4th of July, I would probably head for New York City, New York or Washington, D.C. I'm sure there are many other wonderful places, but New York City really knows how to hold celebrations. They have great fireworks displays and great New Year's Eve celebrations. T.here is probably more history in Washington, D.C. or Boston On a personal side, I no longer attend fireworks live, I prefer to watch them on television. Columbus, Ohio holds fireworks on the 4th of July along with activities for families all day long. Their fireworks are called, "Red, White and Boom". It all depends on whether you want the big city experience or would rather go to a small town for their celebrations. Smaller fireworks and a smaller town experience can be just as rewarding. If you are going with friends, go along with them, wherever they are going and share the experience. If you hate large crowds and heavy traffic, watch it on television and keep changing the channels to see what all is happening in different cities. I hope you have success in making your decision, and welcome to the USA. -
Tiago asked:Driv. route start & end in NYC, Sept, Motor RV, approx. 2weeks. TY!Answer this4 AnswersPieter answered:It'll be a little dicey getting out of the city. I'd stick to the bridges instead of the tunnels due to height restrictions and just general traffic madness. I once drove through the midtown tunnel in a Uhaul...not fun. But once you get to the highways you'll be fine. Take subways while you're in the city to avoid having to park the big rig, and always lock up tight. Once out of the city, you'll only have to worry about mountain roads (Bear Mountain in upstate NY for example, I wouldn't want to drive over that with an RV). Also, while in NY, keep in mind that the Parkways (Saw Mill Parkway, Long Island etc) have height restrictions due to low bridges over the roadways. Good luck with the trip.
