Hi Becky, you should consult the U.S. Centers for Disease Control's website, which lists the regulations for bringing animals into the U.S. I don't believe there's a quarantine issue so long as you have the right documentation to prove your dog is rabies-free, etc.: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/animal/dogs.htm#dogs

There doesn't appear to be any regular scheduled events, though there are Farmer's Markets, parks, restaurants and shopping to enjoy anytime you stay in or around White Cloud.

I would look into Petosky, Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. They are about a half hour from Mackinac. They are touristy and fun places. Mackinac is beautiful but I would say 2 days is a good amount of time there. If you golf there are many places in that area. Also Traverse City which is about 2 hours from Mackinac has wine country. http://www.michigan.org/Things-to-Do/Attractions/Wineries/Default.aspx?city=G3602 The michigan.org site is a great resource to find places to go in MI
