I would look into Petosky, Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. They are about a half hour from Mackinac. They are touristy and fun places. Mackinac is beautiful but I would say 2 days is a good amount of time there. If you golf there are many places in that area. Also Traverse City which is about 2 hours from Mackinac has wine country. http://www.michigan.org/Things-to-Do/Attractions/Wineries/Default.aspx?city=G3602 The michigan.org site is a great resource to find places to go in MI

You don't say how long you've got, but a loop around Lake Michigan would be pretty epic. There are loads of state parks and campgrounds along the way if you want to sleep under canvas; swing by one of two Harley factories in Wisconsin on your way back south before you hit the busy roads around Chicago.
