It's a difficult situation: conventional wisdom from the likes of the US State Department advises US citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Pakistan, probably recent attacks in Mumbai, which originated in Pakistan. However, the former backpacker in me says you should be fine, just exercise the usual common-sense and keep a low profile. Lahore is a big, vibrant city and there hasn't been a spate of targeted attacks or kidnappings of foreigners (although there have been suicide bombings there in the past year). But all that said, there is a heightened sense of social and political unrest in Pakistan right now, so maybe best to hold off if your trip isn't essential.
