In addition to Charles Town, Shepardstown is also nearby & has a lot of antique stores as well as an outstanding bakery. If you're in the vicinity over a weekend, don't miss Sunday brunch at the Bavarian Inn. -

I would contact either http://www.rivertrail.com/kayaking-directory.php or http://www.riverriders.com/RRMain.asp?Option=List&Activity=Kayaking for the best places to kayak (flat water). The employees there would surely give you the answer you're looking for. -

The Washington Post has put out some really good travel features over the years about interesting places around WV. You can browse them at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artsandliving/travel/unitedstates/wv/. Some towns to consider might include Lewisburg, Shepherdstown, and the spa town of Berkley Springs, not to mention the opulent spread at The Greenbrier. Enjoy your road trip! -

Absolutely, if you're interested in Harper's Ferry's Civil War history (http://away.com/primedia/military/harpers_ferry.html), there should be plenty to keep you busy. The town itself is quite small, but is also surrounded by some very scenic countryside that includes forks of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers as well as a section of the Appalachian Trail. You could also bike a stretch of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath (all the way to D.C. if you want!). Nice country for scenic drives, too.
