  You might want to look into renting a car for your trip, which probably won't run you more than $100/day. Car-rental agencies rent AWD vehicles, too, for getting you up to the AWD beach area just past the Corolla township.

  I'm not entirely sure where you will be staying, but it doesn't hurt to bring your bikes. There are a few bike paths around the area. Take a look at http://www.realestateobx.com/downloads/corollamap.pdf. It shows where some of the paths are. Also, I've read that it's possible to ride bikes along the beach at low tide, when the sand is still a little wet and hard.

  The closest beaches to Washington are Atlantic Beach, Hatteras Island, and Nags Head. The wild horses can be viewed north of Nags Head in Corolla on the Currituck Outer Banks. Have a wonderful trip!
