Although average temperatures are relatively consistent throughout the year (lows dipping to the mid-60s and highs shooting up into the mid-90s), the best months to visit Mazatlan are between November and May. Average highs hover in the low- to mid-80s, and rain will rarely disrupt your plans for the day. Hurricane season is August through November.

Rainy season begins in late June and continues through September. The mornings are generally sunny, then clouds begin to roll in around noon, with thunder, lightning, and rain hitting in the afternoon. It’s more humid, and mosquitoes come in droves. But the lush vegetation in the surrounding countryside is a bonus.

Some 9,000 U.S. and Canadian citizens make this coastal retreat their permanent home or seasonal residence between the months of October and April. If you’re into America’s pastime, October through December is baseball season. Los Venados, Mazatlan's Pacific League baseball team, typically sees a few American AAA players on its roster. And the games are a fun way to mix with the locals.

Another issue to weigh is whether you prefer it quiet or lively. The busy seasons are during spring break (late February into April) and winter vacations (December and January).

Count on rates being higher in February during Carnival, Mazatlan’s most famous annual event that dates back to 1898. Nearly 400,000 costumed revelers converge for parades, roving mariachis, fireworks, art, street parties, and gastronomic events. If you’re not into crowds or raucous celebrations, opt for another time.
