Beachgoers delight in the Gold Coast’s summer months (December through February), when temperatures hover in the low 80s during the day, and the humidity is countered by the Pacific Ocean’s cool breezes. The summer months do experience some precipitation, with an average of 12 to 14 days and four to seven inches of rain per month.
Still, the subtropical climate delivers pleasing temperatures year-round (with an average high of 77 degrees), which makes open-air activities the norm. Mild temps also enable major events and festivals to take place throughout the year. The PKRA World Pro Kitesurfing Tour wraps its season here each year in December, bringing in the world’s top pro freestyle and wave kitesurfers. The Quicksilver Pro Surfing Championships comes to town in February.
May (fall in these parts) brings the Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival, which pairs soulful performances by Australian and international acts with tasty local cuisine. In October (spring), kids take their turn on the water and off at the Kids’ Weekend in Surfers Paradise. This free event features popular kids’ performers, beach volleyball classes, and surf lifesaving activities.
