debz asked:Whats the best road route along the coast of maine?End of October, nevAnswer this1 AnswerAlistair answered:Not sure where you'll be arriving in Maine (if at all), but there are lots of great options up around near Bangor, Maine. You'll probably just be missing the peak foliage in this area, but landscapes should still be quite spectacular plus you might avoid some of the heavier leaf-peeping traffic. One of the most popular areas to drive is the "Downeast Acadia" region, which includes such highlights as Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Peninsula, and Penobscot Bay. The Maine Tourism board has some pretty detailed itinerary information here: http://www.visitmaine.com/seasons/fall/touring/downeast/. Also, some more touring highlights here: http://bit.ly/MzPvcH. If you happen to be driving up from Boston, the Midcoast region also boasts lots of scenic fishing villages and coastal views through Portland and up toward Boothbay. More detail here: http://www.visitmaine.com/seasons/fall/touring/windjammers/. Lastly, here's a pretty detailed coastal Maine itinerary from one of our writers, Steve Jermanok, who's based up in Boston and knows this area well: http://away.com/itinerary/united-states/maine-coast-1.html. Have a great trip!
