  It depends on how much time you have to explore while the ship is docked - if you have the time I think an all-day tour would be the better choice. As for things to do, check with the cruise line for activities in the places you stop by - they always have suggestions!

  Going to Azores during the months of January and February isn't ideal. You could run into the rainy season. Generally, the best time to visit is from June-September. This is when the weather is most pleasant.

  Plunked in the middle of the Atlantic, the Azores tear a wedge in the warm currents of the Gulf Stream, and so have a pleasantly mild maritime climate all year round. Travel in the shoulder seasons on either side of the peak summer season and you should be able to score some good deals to this fascinating chain of volcanic islands.
