Verdant Mulegé offers shady coolness in an otherwise scorching part of the world. Founded in 1705, it is home to one of the best preserved and most beautifully situated Jesuit missions in Baja.
Mulegé (pronounced "moo-leh-heh"), at the mouth of beautiful Bahía de Concepción, has great diving, kayaking, and fishing. Guided hikes into the mountains visit several well-preserved Indian caves with stunning paintings. Accommodations are limited and basic. Good beach camping is available just south of town along the Bahía de Concepción.
