Just off I-10 on La. 31, this little town, founded in 1859, prides itself on being the Crawfish Capital of the World. Its Crawfish Festival and Fair has drawn as many as 100,000 to the town of 4,500, and it's quite the event, with music, a unique parade, crawfish races, crawfish-eating contests, and lots more. It's held the first week in May. Some locals actually dislike the Crawfish Festival and feel that their town is at its best the rest of the year. Consider taking them up on this challenge -- the town is pretty and offers some of the nicest options in the area.
