What to do in Chickasaw State Park

Chickasaw State Rustic Park is situated on some of the highest terrain in west Tennessee. Of the area's 14,384 acres of timberland, 1,280 acres are used for recreation.

The park's 100-seat restaurant offers excellent Southern cuisine in a restful atmosphere. The restaurant is open throughout most of the year. In the summer, lunch and dinner are served. On
weekends, breakfast is served as well.

The golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, rolls along and plays over Piney Creek, assuring that the heavily wooded course will provide a scenic and challenging round. The 7,260 yard, par 72 course has two unique holes. Hole No. 4, a 528 yard, par 5 is a true test of skill, as the second shot must land in a bunker-protected area. Likewise, the 203 yard, No. 14 features a elevated tee box, 30 feet above the green below. This championship course, complemented by 13 welcoming cabins, overlooks the scenic banks of Lake Placid.

Other attractions near this park are the Shiloh Military Park, the Pinson Mounds State Park and the Casey Jones Museum.

Recreation
The park features a championship golf course, hiking trail, tennis courts, basketball courts, archery range, playgrounds, horseshoe pits, volleyball court and lighted ball field. There is also horseback riding in the summer months. Many visitors bring their own mounts and explore the more than 50 miles of roads and trails within Chickasaw State Forest.

Climate
Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Spring temperatures average between 45 and 70 degrees. Summer's full force arrives in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape the hot summer temperatures as the higher elevation cools the air slightly. Cool fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant fall colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall foliage.
