What to do in Chenango Valley State Park

In addition to being nestled in the beautiful Central Travel Region, Chenango Valley State Park offers a bevy of outdoor recreation activities. Anglers enjoy a variety of choices including the nearby Chenango River, Lily Lake and Chenango Lake. Woodpeckers, nuthatches, warblers and thrushes attract bird watchers, while duffers enjoy the 18-hole golf course. Winter sports abound including ice skating, sledding and cross-country trails.

Chenango Valley State Park is a wondrous result of glacial activity. Two lakes, a bog and nearby river offer the recreation enthusiast a variety during their outdoor excursion. Visitors are offered 216 campsites, 24 cabins, 18-hole golf course, multi-use trails, and a variety of winter sporting activities.

Visitors to Chenango Valley State Park enjoy golfing, fishing, swimming, camping, lodging, picnicking, recreation programs, bird watching, multi-use trails, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding and more. Boat rental available.

The golf course offers a clubhouse, lessons, practice fairway, practice green, power carts, pro shop, club rentals, restaurant, snack bar and showers. The signature golf hole is the 4th hole, par 5 - voted the best par 5 in the triple cities area by the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin. Motorized cart fee for 9 holes is $10 and for 18 holes, $20. The green fees for 18 holes during the weekday run $17 and on weekends $21. The course is a par 72 with yardage of 5,254. Championship par is 72 and championship yardage is 6,271.

Chenango Valley State Park is located along the shores of the small Chenango Lake which lies just east of Chenango River. Take US 88 northeast to SR 369 north. The park is 13 miles north of Binghamton.

The Chenango Valley State Park area experiences average January temperatures from 18 degrees to above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 to above -6 degrees Celsius). It is important to note that this area receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation. Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 inches to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. The heaviest precipitation is received in the region's northeast segment.
