Almost all the islands have festive Saturday markets with tables and tents showcasing local produce and handiwork. The largest market, with more than 140 vendors, is on Salt Spring Island. On North Pender Island, the market has children's activities and open-air concerts, while the market on Mayne feature street performers.
Explore the Enchanted Forest Trail, one of many lovely stretches of forested trail on Pender Island.
The Saturna Island Lamb Barbeque, the island's biggest annual event, takes place over the Canada Day long weekend and features live music, crafts, entertainment for children, and, of course, barbecued food.
Head to Pender Island's Fall Fair, held in the Community Hall each August, for activities for kids, live entertainment, art and floral displays, and a dance.
Children five and under sail for free on B.C. Ferries.
