Santa Monica Beach Travel Tips
- Santa Monica Beach is more than three miles long, so there's plenty of room to stretch out. You can rent most beach equipment here, and there's even a beach butler service that will set up and take down everything you need for a day on the sand.
- A bike path runs along Santa Monica's beaches for pedaling, strolling, and skating. (And you can just keep going—the path stretches 22 miles along the Los Angeles coast.) Volleyball players will find sand courts south of the pier, as well as at other places along the bicycle path.
- Several companies run surf lessons in Santa Monica. If you're planning on surfing in the summer, check with lifeguards—summer surfing is only allowed in designated areas.
- Need a break from the sand? Step from the beach into the recently opened Annenberg Community Beach House, which has a gorgeous tiled pool for summer swimming, a deck with views of Santa Monica Bay, an art gallery, a café, and more.
- May and June can be foggy at the beach, but the sun often shines by afternoon. (And the fog is often a nice break from soaring summer temperatures farther inland.)
