  • The south-facing bay and offshore breakwaters offer boats moored in Long Beach excellent protection from the open water.
  • Long Beach plays host to the annual Congressional Cup and is the starting point for the TransPacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Hawaii.
  • Call ahead to reserve a guest slip at Alamitos Bay Marina. Many of Long Beach's yacht clubs are here; if you're a member of a yacht club at home, find out if you have reciprocal privileges.
  • Several outfits in Long Beach offer sailing lessons; the quiet waters make the area a forgiving spot to learn. If you're an experienced sailor, you'll find a large yachting community here.
  • There are many ways to set sail here, even without experience. Charter a sailboat for a sunset cruise, a weekend to Catalina Island, or anything in between.
