What to do in Cacapon Resort State Park

**Information provivded by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources**

Cacapon Resort Park received its name from being located in the shadows of the wide expanse of Cacapon Mountain. This mountain is the highest peak in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia reaching an elevation of 2,300 feet. The Cacapon River parallels the mountain in a meandering route beneath the mountains western slope.

Cacapon (pronounced CaCApon) is a derivative of a Shawnee Indian word meaning "medicine waters". It refers to the areas renowned medicinal waters, which have been acclaimed throughout history for their healing powers. These waters come to the surface approximately ten miles from Cacapon at the nearby Berkeley Springs State Park.

Be sure to check out and stay updated with Cacapon's new additions. Throughout 1999 several projects were completed. Among these new expansions was a new conference facility capable of seating up to 250 people and an elevator located in the lodge. Other additions are two new fully accessible guest cabins, upgraded and accessible day use restrooms and facilities.

We hope you will come visit and take advantage of everything Cacapon State Park has to offer.

Generally temperatures during the winter months range from 15 to 40 degrees F. Ample snow accumulation provides for cross-country and downhill skiing opportunities. Spring brings blooming trees and shrubs to the forested regions of the state, as well as warmer temperatures. During this season, March through May, expect mild temperatures between 45 and 70 degrees F. Summers are normally hot with high humidity, especially at lower elevations. Expect temperatures to range from 70 at night to 95 during the dog days of August. Fall brings cool, crisp air to West Virginia and spectacular foliage color changes. Bring a light jacket for this season, which brings temperatures between 35, at night, to 70 degrees F, during the day.
