What to do in Balmorhea State Park

Balmorhea State Park encompasses 46 acres in in the foothills of the Davis Mountains southwest of Balmorhea. The highlight of this park is a 77,000 square foot pool that is fed by an artesian spring. The pool reaches depths of 25 feet and is open for swimming and scuba diving. The temperature of the pool usually ranges from 72 to 76 degrees F. Facilities at this site range from motel-like accommodations to picnic sites.

The facilities maintained at Balmorhea State Park include two options for overnight use of the park: motel-like rooms or campsites. All of the facilities have modern amenities with showers, electricity and restrooms. The San Solomon Springs Pool is open year round with a bathhouse, playground, playing fields and picnic area. A concessionaire is open at the pool during the summer months. There are no lifeguards on duty at the Solomon Springs Pool.

Location
The park is located in Reeves County of west Texas, 4 miles southwest of Balmorhea on State Highway 17, in Toyahvale.

From I-10 westbound, take Balmorhea exit (exit #206); FM 2903 south to Balmorhea; State Highway 17 east 4 miles to the Park. From I-10 eastbound, take Toyahvale/Ft. Davis exit (exit #192); Ranch Road 3078 east approximately 12 miles to the park.

Climate
Balmorhea State Park lies in the semiarid desert of the Texas panhandle at an elevation of 3,205 feet. This region experiences warm days with cool night from May to September and low humidity is the norm year round. Winter temperatures can dip near freezing during the night and warm layers are recommended for campers at this time of the year. The average rainfall of the area is approximately 14 inches annually with August often being the wettest month. Current weather conditions can vary from day to day.
