This trail leads from Tioga Road or White Wolf Campground to Lukens Lake forming the headwaters of the Middle Tuolumne River. Both trailheads provide an easy hike to the water body. Once at the lake swimming and fishing are possible.
This Trail Description begins at the trailhead on Tioga Road. The parking area consists of a small pull out on the southern side of Tioga Road. Park here and cross the road to the trailhead. The trail begins to ascend slowly. It climbs 200 feet in the first half mile, reaching a saddle. From this point the trail descends into the Middle Tuolumne River Valley. The southern shore of the lake is a half mile from the saddle.
Passing the lake the trail ascends again to 8,000 feet and a trail junction. The trail to the right leads to Ten Lakes. The trail to the left leads to the Pate Valley Trail. To reach White Wolf Campground turn left and follow the Middle Fork Tuolumne River westward for nearly one mile. This is a level stretch of trail that ends at a trail junction. Turn left and follow the waterway one mile to the campground. To reach the Pate Valley Trail bear right at this junction and hike three and a half miles northward.
Directions: From Arch Rock Entrance, Follow Highway 140 northward to Old Big Oak Flat Road. Turn left and drive 9.5 miles to Tioga Road. Turn right on Tioga Road and travel 16 miles to the parking area for the Lukens Lake Trailhead.
